WACA - Accessibility matters!

When establishing the Web Accessibility Certificate Austria (WACA), Zensations was not only responsible for the technical implementation of the accessible website, but also for the whole branding. Our job was to create a distinctive Corporate Design, that follows the principles of web accessibility, for example the optimum contrasts and good readability and included the creation of a logo design as well. The creation of the CI built the basis of the website, which was developed using Drupal 8 and its publisher distribution Thunder. During the whole process we worked closely together with the WACA project team as well as the Austrian Computer Society.

The goal was communicating information around the certificate via an accessible website, which also facilitates contacting. By implementing further features, the platform turns into the vital instrument of the certification. The content creation as well as the website’s basic functions have to follow the international standards of the W3C (WCAG 2.0 AA). Besides communication, the website serves as a data base for all certificates and the associated news and reports. Furthermore, interested parties get insights about the states of certified websites including problem reports. The audit tool, which is used by certificate auditors for documentation and evaluation of the websites that are to be certified, plays an important role, for it contains a sample of the website. Therefor WACA.at does not only serve as a platform for exchange of information, but also a knowledge site that provides information about digital accessibility in Austria – especially for website publishers.
